Dholpur, June 11 — A fire broke out in a thatched-roof house in Chandrawali village of Sarmathura subdivision on Wednesday. The house belonged to Suresh Valmiki, who reported the incident after flames engulfed his belongings.
According to reports, the fire started when a spark from a bidi (hand-rolled cigarette) ignited the thatched roof. Suresh was smoking when the spark landed on the roof, triggering the fire. Clothes, food grains, cash, and other household items were completely destroyed.
Upon receiving the alert, the local fire brigade team, led by Harikesh Meena, rushed to the scene along with police. The team, with help from villagers, managed to bring the blaze under control. Timely action prevented a major tragedy as a gas cylinder kept inside the house was safely removed.
The initial investigation confirmed the fire was caused by the bidi spark. No casualties were reported.
