On Tuesday, Bharatpur witnessed an extreme heatwave as temperatures touched a blistering 47°C by 2:30 PM, according to the district weather center. The scorching sun and hot winds made it feel like the city was on fire.

The usually busy streets turned silent, with very few people venturing outside. Those who did were seen covering themselves completely with cloth to avoid sunburn. Many shopkeepers shut their shops early to escape the unbearable heat.

This spike in temperature follows a brief respite from earlier rainfall that had brought some relief. However, the last four days have seen intense sunshine and dry winds, worsening the situation.

To cope, residents are relying on hydration—consuming lemon water, buttermilk, and other fluids. Stray animals, too, are suffering from the sweltering conditions, roaming in search of shade and water.

The citizens of Bharatpur now await the monsoon season eagerly, hoping it will bring some much-needed relief from the relentless heat. However, the weather department warns that there is no immediate respite in sight.
