Jaipur: In a dramatic twist to a long-unsolved theft case, a Jaipur couple managed to spot and apprehend their former domestic help, who had stolen valuables worth lakhs from their house 2.5 years ago. The man had been missing since the incident, and police had failed to trace him — until now.
The incident dates back to October 27, 2022, when Jugalkishore Sharma, a resident of Gautam Marg, Nirman Nagar, returned home with his family after celebrating Bhai Dooj. To their horror, the house was found ransacked and gold and silver ornaments, utensils, and other valuables were missing. The prime suspect? Their recently hired help, Vishnu, who had vanished without a trace.
Despite lodging an FIR, no major leads surfaced, though the family persistently scanned CCTV footage from nearby areas, last spotting Vishnu near a local drain.
Spotted on June 4, Dragged to Police
Fast forward to June 4, 2025, the couple was on their scooter when they spotted a familiar face in Shyam Nagar. Sure enough, it was Vishnu. They stopped, confronted, and detained him despite his pretenses of innocence. Passersby initially questioned their action but left once shown CCTV evidence.
Brought Home, Then Handed to Police
The accused was brought home, where all family members confirmed his identity. He was then handed over to police. During interrogation, it was revealed Vishnu is originally from Nepal, is addicted to substances, and allegedly buried the stolen jewelry on a woman’s instructions — but now claims the location is unknown.
The police are actively searching for the woman and the hidden loot.
