JAIPUR: Rajasthan has long been a leader in the country due to its vast mineral wealth, but under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the state is now accelerating toward establishing itself as a major hub for ‘Critical Minerals.’ In a high-level meeting held recently in the presence of Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, a robust action plan was formulated to unlock the immense potential of the mining sector.
Innovation and Transparency in Mining
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma stated that Rajasthan possesses 82 types of minerals, with active extraction underway for 57 of them. The government’s top priorities are policy reforms, transparency, and the development of infrastructure within the mining sector. The Chief Minister has issued clear directives to officials to maintain regular coordination between the state and central governments to ensure mining projects are completed within stipulated timelines.
Siwana Ring Complex: Key to Future Technology and Energy
The meeting featured a detailed discussion on the significance of the ‘Siwana Ring Complex,’ which spans across the Barmer and Balotra districts. This geological structure is a major source of ‘Rare Earth Elements’ and ‘Heavy Rare Earth Elements,’ which are vital for modern technology and clean energy. The Chief Minister has ordered the appointment of a nodal officer to ensure the effective implementation and development of this complex.
Center-State Coordination: Accelerating Projects
Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, noted that the mining sector in India has undergone comprehensive reforms under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Praising Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s proactive approach, he highlighted:
- Meeting Rising Demand: Rajasthan has the capacity to meet the growing demand for critical minerals required in sectors such as defense, solar energy, and automobiles.
- Information Sharing: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) will share data on identified and explored sites with the state government to ensure that land suitable for conservation is not diverted for other purposes.
- Production Focus: Special attention will be given to starting production immediately in mineral blocks that have already been auctioned.
Scientific Extraction and Investment
The discussion extended beyond mining to the energy sector, prioritizing issues such as the Coal India-RVUNL joint venture, solar energy projects, District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds, and environmental clearances. The state government’s transparent policies are expected to pave the way for increased investment and mineral production.
This meeting marks a major step toward making Rajasthan not only an economic powerhouse in mining but also a key contributor to the nation’s energy security and technological self-reliance.
