The mysterious death of Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya has turned into a sensational murder case. After his body was recovered on June 2, police were convinced this was not a routine missing case. An SIT (Special Investigation Team) was formed, and their probe revealed three major lies by his wife, Sonam, making her the prime suspect.
1. A False Phone Call: On May 23, Sonam called Raja’s mother from Indore claiming she was fasting. However, the homestay owner testified that Sonam had eaten well that day and was alone.
2. Guide’s Testimony & Call Details: A local guide confirmed seeing Sonam and Raja together in the morning. Phone records showed that during the same timeframe as Sonam’s call to her mother, Raja was already murdered.
3. No Honeymoon Photos: While on their honeymoon, the couple did not post a single photo on social media—a highly unusual behavior that raised red flags about the nature of their relationship.
Additional suspicions were raised when Sonam booked only a one-way ticket to Shillong and did not inform her in-laws. After disappearing, she was found at a roadside dhaba in Uttar Pradesh, where she claimed she was kidnapped and was a victim, not a suspect.
Police have taken her into custody and are now interrogating her in Shillong. All evidence currently points to Sonam’s key involvement in the murder.
