In a major crackdown, the Discom Vigilance Team uncovered a massive electricity theft in an aluminium factory named ‘Star Metal’ in Jaipur’s Shikarpura area on Tuesday. The factory was producing aluminium from scrap and was illegally drawing power directly from a transformer using a concealed high-capacity cable.
How the Theft Was Detected
ASP of the vigilance wing, Mahendra Kumar Sharma, revealed that a 250 HP industrial connection was registered under the name ‘M/s Ismail Rubber Industries’. Upon inspecting meter number 004339, irregularities were noticed. Based on the findings, a fine of ₹1.48 crore has been imposed. A notice has been issued to the factory, and failure to pay will lead to an FIR under the Electricity Act, 2003.
