Indore/Shillong | June 12, 2025:
What seemed like a newlywed couple’s journey turned into a murder mystery that has left the nation stunned. Raja Raghuvanshi, who believed he was beginning a life with his new bride, was instead the target of a cold-blooded conspiracy. Recent findings by the Meghalaya Police reveal a disturbing narrative.

Behind the Scenes: The Mastermind and His Partner

According to police, Raj Kushwaha masterminded the entire operation with Sonam, Raja’s wife, as his co-conspirator. The plot started as early as February 2025, much before the wedding. Two fake plans were initially considered to fake Sonam’s disappearance – either showing her jumping into a river or using a burned body to pass off as her remains. When these failed, the final plan was simple – kill Raja.

Timeline to Murder

  • The plan solidified 11 days before the wedding
  • Killers reached Guwahati on May 19, anticipating to kill Raja there
  • However, the murder was postponed to May 23 in Nongkrem, Meghalaya
  • Attack lasted from 2:00 PM to 2:18 PM
  • Sonam handed over a blood-soaked raincoat to accomplice Akash

Sonam’s Disguise and Escape

After the murder, Sonam wore a burqa provided by Raj and took a taxi to Guwahati. From there, she traveled via bus and train, moving through Siliguri, Arrah, Lucknow, and finally reaching Indore. Raj instructed her to pose as a kidnap victim if caught, hoping to divert suspicion.

Forced Marriage Turned Fatal

Police investigations reveal that Sonam’s marriage to Raja was against her will. Her desire to escape the relationship became the root motive for the conspiracy. Raj and his team even tried to kill Raja at three different locations before finally succeeding.

What’s Next in the Case?

Police have recorded all statements and are preparing to recreate the crime scene with all five accused. The motive, route, and logistics of the crime are now being pieced together in what has become one of the most shocking murder plots of the year.
