Today Weather Update (April 8, 2026): Weather conditions across India have changed अचानक, bringing relief from rising heat in many regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for thunderstorms, rainfall, and strong winds in several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.

Thunderstorm and Rain Alert in 11 States

According to IMD, around 11 states are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall and gusty winds ranging between 60 to 85 km/h over the next 24 hours. Some regions may also witness lightning strikes and hailstorms, which could impact daily life and agriculture.

This sudden weather change is mainly due to a Western Disturbance, an active weather system affecting northern and northwestern parts of India. It typically brings clouds, rain, and a drop in temperature.

Drop in Temperature, Relief from Heat

With the arrival of rain and strong winds, temperatures are expected to fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in many areas. Major cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Patna are already experiencing a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures.

This shift is providing much-needed relief from the early summer heatwave conditions.

State-wise Weather Conditions

Delhi-NCR

Delhi is under a yellow alert today. The region is likely to experience cloudy skies, strong winds, and light to moderate rainfall. Similar conditions may continue until April 9, with clearer weather expected from April 10 onward.

Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, several districts are under orange alert due to the possibility of thunderstorms, rainfall, and hailstorms. The next 48 hours are considered crucial from a weather perspective.

Bihar

Parts of Bihar may experience heavy rainfall along with winds reaching up to 60 km/h. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during this period.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness heavy rainfall and snowfall in higher regions. There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in vulnerable areas.

Punjab and Haryana

Punjab and neighboring regions may receive light to moderate rainfall along with strong winds. Some areas have already reported crop damage due to recent hailstorms.

Rajasthan

In Rajasthan, cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Ajmer are expected to receive rainfall and possible hailstorms. Some regions may record 30–50 mm of rainfall.

IMD Advisory and Safety Tips

The India Meteorological Department has advised citizens to take necessary precautions:

  • Avoid staying in open areas during thunderstorms
  • Seek shelter during lightning activity
  • Stay away from trees and weak structures during strong winds
  • Farmers should take preventive measures to protect crops

Why Is the Weather Changing?

Meteorologists explain that the current weather shift is driven by an active Western Disturbance. This system originates near regions around the Mediterranean and travels towards India, bringing rain, snowfall, and gusty winds to northern parts of the country.

Conclusion

The weather on April 8, 2026, is expected to remain dynamic and potentially disruptive across many Indian states. While the rainfall brings relief from heat, thunderstorms and hailstorms may affect normal life and agriculture. Staying informed and following official advisories is essential to ensure safety during this period.
