US Moves to Ease Tensions After Trump’s Controversial ‘Hellhole’ Remark on India

The United States has attempted to defuse tensions after former President Donald Trump sparked controversy with a social media remark that described countries including India in negative terms.
Following the backlash, the US embassy in New Delhi clarified the situation, emphasizing Trump’s earlier positive statements about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A spokesperson pointed to previous occasions where Trump had described India as a “great country” and referred to the Indian prime minister as a close friend.
The controversy began after a post shared on Trump’s social media platform criticized immigration policies in the United States and used offensive language while mentioning India and China. The remarks quickly drew reactions from political circles and the public.
In response, India’s Ministry of External Affairs acknowledged the reports but chose to keep its reaction brief, signaling a cautious approach to the situation.
US officials have since highlighted Trump’s past diplomatic tone toward India, including his comments at international events and during conversations with PM Modi, where he praised India’s leadership and expressed optimism about regional relations.
The incident has once again brought attention to the sensitivity of diplomatic language, especially when it involves major global partners like India. Despite the controversy, both sides appear to be handling the matter carefully to avoid further escalation.
