Ukrainian President Zelensky discussed the Russian oil issue with India and Trump, hoping to put pressure on India.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently shared his views on Ukraine’s relations with India and the United States in an interview with Fox News. Zelenskyy stated that he was confident that India fully supports Ukraine and expressed hope that US President Donald Trump would be successful in persuading India to stop purchasing Russian oil.

During the interview, Zelenskyy said,

“Yes, some questions are being raised regarding the energy issue, but I am confident that President Trump can resolve it together with European countries. At the same time, he can establish even closer and stronger relations with India.”

He also expressed concern about Moscow’s benefits from China and India’s purchase of Russian oil. Zelenskyy said, “We must make every effort to force the Indians to back down. I hope they will change their attitude towards the Russian energy sector.”

Zelenskyy then commented on the US’s role in the situation in Ukraine during the war with Russia. He said that Ukraine can now continue its struggle against Russia with full force with the support of the European Union and NATO. He expressed hope that Trump would help mobilize American and European support to fully restore Kyiv to its original position. Zelensky said,

“Ukraine is capable of defending its territorial integrity, and perhaps even going beyond that.”

This statement came after President Zelensky and Donald Trump met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This meeting between the two leaders occurred at a time when Washington was pressuring India to stop purchasing oil from Russia.

It is significant that India, which imports a significant amount of oil from Russia, has not yet taken any harsh action against Russia over the Ukraine conflict. Despite continued pressure from the US and European countries, India has continued to purchase oil from Russia, prioritizing its energy security.

Previously, Donald Trump had talked about changing his policy regarding regional agreements between Ukraine and Russia. He had previously stated that a territorial settlement between Russia and Ukraine could be reached, but now he believes Ukraine could have the opportunity to fully return to its original territory, and it’s possible that it could go even further.

While this shift represents a significant departure from Trump’s previous views, it could have implications not only for Ukraine and Russia, but also for the global energy market and international relations, especially when it comes to the relations of major oil-importing countries like India with Russia.

In short, this interview and statement demonstrate that Ukrainian President Zelensky is working to resolve his country’s security and energy crisis with the intervention of global powers. Furthermore, Trump’s statement also underscored a significant shift in the US’s approach to the Ukraine conflict.
