Tension gripped the Katiya Usmanpur village in the Nigohi police station area of Shahjahanpur on Friday following the vandalism of a statue of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The incident triggered protests by local residents, prompting the administration to deploy a heavy police contingent to prevent any law-and-order crisis.

Incident Details: Right Hand of Statue Damaged

According to police reports, the act of vandalism occurred late Thursday night. On Friday morning, villagers discovered that the right hand of the statue had been broken. As news spread, hundreds of people gathered at the site, raising slogans and demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.

Prompt Police Response: Restoration and CCTV Installation

Sensing the gravity of the situation, CO City Prayank Jain and Nigohi police officials rushed to the scene.

  • Immediate Repairs: The police facilitated the repair of the damaged statue through skilled artisans and subsequently covered it with a tarpaulin for protection.
  • Electronic Surveillance: To ensure future security, the administration has installed CCTV cameras at the site.
  • Peacekeeping: Officials held dialogues with the protesters, assuring them of swift justice, which successfully pacified the crowd.

FIR Registered Against Suspect

Local residents have pointed suspicion toward a village youth who reportedly has a history of opposing the presence of the statue. Villagers alleged that the same individual had objected to the use of a DJ during the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations on April 14.

CO City Prayank Jain stated, “An FIR has been registered based on the villagers’ complaint. Police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the suspect. Any attempt to disturb social harmony will be dealt with strictly as per the law.”
