Jaipur: The desert state of Rajasthan is currently facing an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring to record-breaking levels. On Thursday, Sriganganagar was recorded as the hottest city in the entire country, with the mercury touching a scorching 44.5°C. The extreme heat has forced district administrations to change school timings to protect students from heatstroke.

Heatwave Alert and Weather Forecast

The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued a “Yellow Alert” for heatwave conditions in 5 districts today. However, there is a glimmer of hope for residents. A new Western Disturbance is expected to become active starting April 25. This system is likely to bring dust storms and light rainfall to Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Ajmer divisions, potentially providing much-needed relief from the blistering heat.

Major Changes in School Timings

Due to the rising mercury, several districts have revised school hours:

• Kota: Classes for students up to Grade 12 will now operate from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
• Dausa, Jaisalmer, and Chittorgarh: Schools for students up to Grade 8 will close by 12:00 PM.

City-Wise Temperature Highlights

• Sriganganagar: Topped the national list at 44.5°C.
• Kota: Witnessed the hottest day of the season at 43°C.
• Jaipur: Recorded a maximum of 39.6°C, with cloud cover expected by April 26-27.
• Udaipur & Jodhpur: Both cities crossed the 39°C mark, leading to deserted markets and a dip in tourism at popular spots like Fateh Sagar Lake.

Health Advisory

Health experts have advised citizens to avoid outdoor activities between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, consume liquid diets, and cover their heads and faces with a cloth while stepping out to prevent heat-related illnesses.
