Protests Erupt in Jaunpur After Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Statue Vandalized, Arrests and Action Demanded

The vandalism of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue in Bakuliya village of Kerakat area in Jaunpur district has triggered widespread outrage, turning into a significant social and political issue. What began as an act of damage to a statue has now evolved into a matter deeply connected to the dignity and sentiments of the Bahujan community.
On Tuesday, workers of the Azad Samaj Party and Bhim Army staged a peaceful protest against the incident. Led by district in-charge Ratnesh Kumar, hundreds of party workers and local villagers gathered at the Normal School ground before marching in an organized and disciplined manner to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office.
During the protest, demonstrators carried placards with slogans and raised their voices demanding justice. The administration remained alert throughout the event to ensure law and order. Station House Officer Arvind Kumar Pandey was present at the site along with police personnel to maintain security.
A two-point memorandum was submitted to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shailendra Kumar. The key demands included the immediate arrest of the person responsible for damaging the statue and the withdrawal of alleged false cases registered by the police against innocent individuals.
After receiving the memorandum, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate assured that a fair investigation would be conducted. He stated that if the cases are found to be false, they will be withdrawn, and strict action will be taken against the actual culprit.
However, protest leaders alleged that instead of arresting the real accused, the police are targeting innocent people who participated in peaceful demonstrations. District in-charge Ratnesh Kumar emphasized that the issue goes beyond a statue, describing it as a matter of dignity and self-respect for the community. He warned that the protest would continue until the cases against innocent people are withdrawn.
District President of the Azad Samaj Party, SP Manav, who led the march, also took a firm stance. He stated that the community will no longer tolerate injustice and will continue to fight at every level to protect its dignity. He further warned that any future attempt to disrespect Dr. Ambedkar would be strongly resisted.
This incident once again highlights the importance of maintaining social harmony and the responsibility of both authorities and society. Prompt and impartial action in such sensitive matters is crucial to restoring public trust and preventing further escalation.
