Odisha Viral Video Case: 5 Arrested by Cyber Police in Sambalpur

A disturbing incident from western Odisha has sparked widespread concern after a 44-second objectionable video allegedly involving a kirtan singer went viral on social media within a short span of time. The rapid circulation of the clip triggered heated discussions online, with many users sharing it along with inappropriate and offensive comments.
The incident has once again brought attention to serious issues like online privacy, cyberbullying, and the dangers of sharing content without consent. As the video continued to spread, questions were raised about digital responsibility and the misuse of social media platforms.
Taking swift action, the Odisha Cyber Police in Sambalpur arrested five individuals on April 23, 2026, for their alleged involvement in circulating the video. The accused have been identified as Raja Badhei, Rabindriya Seth, Sushant Bagh, Sambhu Prasad Pradhan, all residents of Sambalpur, and Deepak Mahar from Sonepur district.
During the investigation, police seized five mobile phones from the accused. These devices have been sent for forensic examination to trace the origin of the video, understand how it was circulated, and identify if more individuals were involved in spreading it.
Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to control further sharing of the video across platforms. At the same time, authorities have warned the public that sharing or forwarding such objectionable content can lead to strict legal consequences under Indian cyber laws.
The investigation is still underway to determine how the video was recorded and uploaded. Authorities are also examining the scale of its spread and whether additional people played a role in amplifying it online.
This case highlights the growing concern around non-consensual sharing of private content and the speed at which such material can go viral. Police have urged citizens to act responsibly on social media, avoid sharing sensitive content, and report such incidents to cybercrime authorities to prevent harm and legal trouble.
