A major insurance fraud has been uncovered under Rajasthan’s Mukhyamantri Ayushman Durghatna Bima Yojana (MADBY), where individuals across several districts claimed ₹5 lakh compensation twice using fake FIRs and postmortem reports.
The scam has surfaced in Bharatpur, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Dausa, Beawar, and Ajmer, with over 15 known cases. In Bharatpur alone, three incidents were found where two different individuals claimed money for the death of the same person.
E-mitra kiosk operators have been linked to the scam, indicating a broader nexus. In some cases, those who were warned of FIRs returned the ₹5 lakh insurance amount—like in Beawar, where one person refunded the amount after departmental action.
One shocking case from Bharatpur involved two women claiming to be the wife of a deceased man named Hareti, both receiving ₹5 lakh each using the same documents. Similarly, in Karauli, a man named Vishnu was claimed as a son and a son-in-law by two different individuals for separate payouts.
Suresh Meena, Project Director of the scheme, confirmed that FIRs have been filed and further legal action is ongoing in remaining districts. The exposure has raised serious concerns over verification protocols and accountability in the scheme’s implementation.
