Khedi Haiwat, Karauli:

With the objective of social reform, strengthening community organization, and eliminating deep-rooted social evils, an important tehsil-level meeting of the Jatav community was organized in Khedi Haiwat. During the meeting, prominent citizens and community office-bearers held extensive deliberations and adopted several stringent and historic resolutions to provide a new direction to the society.

Chief Guests and Office-Bearers

The meeting was attended by District President of the Jatav Samaj Sudhar Samiti (representing 360 villages across Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Dausa), Hattiram Thekedar, as the Chief Guest. The program was presided over by Suroth Tehsil President Prasadi Lal Jatav, while the proceedings were conducted by Manoj Kumar Devat. During the event, Ramsingh Jatav was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the assembly.

Key Social Resolutions Adopted

Samiti spokesperson Rinku Khedi Haiwat outlined the stringent steps decided upon to eradicate prevailing social evils:

  • Total Ban on Death Feasts (Mrityu Bhoj): To control unnecessary expenditure and economic burden on families, death feasts have been completely banned within the community.
  • Anti-Drug Campaign: A strict decision was taken to completely prohibit the sale and consumption of both illicit and legal alcohol within Jatav settlements.
  • Curbing Unethical Activities: Considering gambling and betting as detrimental to the community, it was decided that strict action will be taken against those operating or facilitating such activities.
  • Disciplinary Action: A provision for ‘Hukka-Pani Band’ (social boycott) has been enacted against individuals who violate the rules set by the community. Such individuals will no longer be permitted to participate in community gatherings or panchayats.

Wide Community Participation

Hundreds of community members, including the entire executive committees of Hindaun and Suroth tehsils, participated in the meeting with great enthusiasm. The participation of the youth was particularly notable. The meeting concluded with a collective resolution focusing on unity, education, de-addiction, and social reform.

Prominent figures present included Youth President Hariom Thekedar, Tehsil President Dharam Singh, Bablu Chaurasia, Rajaram Jatav, and several senior social workers and philanthropists, including retired District Education Officers Tarachand and Ramkishan.
