In a tragic incident in Karauli district’s Nadoti tehsil, a violent storm early Tuesday morning led to a major electrical accident in Dholeta village’s Koli locality. At around 4 AM, a live 11kV high-tension wire snapped and fell onto the domestic single-phase power line, resulting in a sudden surge of high voltage across several households.

Seven people suffered burns, four of them critically, as the electric shock was transmitted through iron beds while they were sleeping.

List of the Injured

The victims include Suresh Chand Mahawar, Chanda Mahawar, Akash Mahawar, Champa Devi, Prabhati Devi, Suresh Koli, Chando Devi, Manoj, Aarti, and Mahendra. Akash Koli, Suresh Koli, Chando Devi, and Champa Devi were referred to Jaipur in serious condition. Others are being treated at the Gudhachandraji Community Health Center.

Chaos for 15 Minutes

The shock continued to affect the area for around 15 to 20 minutes before villagers contacted the electricity department, which then shut down the power supply.

Many homes suffered damage to electronic appliances. Residents like Captain, Vijay, Meethalal, Bahadur, and Chandan reported burned-out coolers, fans, and refrigerators, with estimated losses running into lakhs of rupees.

Officials Respond

According to AEN Yogesh Sharma from the electricity department, the wires were not old, but the storm’s force caused them to fall on the lower voltage lines. A transformer was also damaged. Repair work has begun.

Villagers Demand Action

Residents expressed frustration, stating that they had earlier warned the department about potential hazards. They now demand strict action against those responsible and immediate reinforcement and repair of electricity infrastructure to avoid future disasters.
