The demand for 5% reservation in government jobs has once again stirred the Gujjar community in Rajasthan. Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti President Vijay Bainsla has announced a Mahapanchayat on June 8 in Peepalupura, Bharatpur, to mark the 17th anniversary of the Gujjar reservation movement.
To mobilize support, yellow rice — a traditional invitation — is being distributed in over 300 villages, with Gujjar leaders going door-to-door. Bainsla has asserted that if the government fails to meet the demands, the community will not hesitate to resort to an agitation. “We will return only after claiming our rights,” he said.
Importantly, Bainsla emphasized that discussions with the government will not take place behind closed doors, but in the presence of the community. He has also shared his route chart, inviting the government to engage accordingly.
Bharatpur SP Mridul Kachhava confirmed that police are on high alert and security arrangements are in place. He said the administration has issued an open invitation for talks and is closely monitoring the situation.
The Mahapanchayat could become a pivotal moment for the Gujjar community’s ongoing reservation battle, especially with political pressure mounting ahead of potential elections.
