A grand fair was organized on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra at Sagar Sarovar, located in the foothills of Timangarh Fort in Masalpur, Karauli. Thousands of devotees took a holy dip in the sacred waters, praying for happiness and prosperity.
After bathing, people performed rituals in memory of ancestors, including immersion of ashes. A traditional fair was also held on the bank of the sarovar, attracting traders from Karauli, Dholpur, Bharatpur, and Agra.
Sagar Sarovar is believed to be over 1200 years old, built by King Timanpal of Timangarh who, under his guru’s guidance, had sacred waters from 68 pilgrimages poured into the pond, making it a revered pilgrimage site.
The area is also known as a spiritual center, with saints like Gomti Das Maharaj, Mendhki Das, Satyanath, and Anar Khoh having meditated here. Their places of penance still remain preserved.
The event was managed by local community leaders and volunteers, while youth teams and police ensured smooth conduct. Sagar Sarovar is located 9 km from Masalpur near Bhojpur village, along the Agra road, and stands as a symbol of religious and cultural heritage of the region.
