Beijing — In a major move aimed at boosting international tourism and accelerating its economy, China has significantly relaxed its visa regulations. Citizens of 74 countries will no longer need a visa to travel to China. They can stay in the country for up to 30 days without a visa and explore various cities.
This step will particularly benefit those countries whose citizens travel to China for business, tourism, cultural, or educational purposes. Previously, travelers from these countries had to go through a lengthy visa process, but now the procedure has become much simpler and more convenient.
Increase in International Tourist Arrivals
According to the Chinese government, over 20 million international tourists visited China without a visa in 2024. This figure is double that of 2023, clearly indicating that the visa relaxation policy has had a positive impact.
Which Countries Benefit?
Although China has not yet publicly released the list of 74 countries, it is likely to include most European, Asian, American, and Oceanian nations. This policy may also be extended to countries like India in the future, potentially strengthening bilateral relations.
China’s Goal: Promote Tourism and Trade
Experts believe this decision will not only boost the tourism sector but also increase foreign investment and business partnerships. Hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and local businesses are expected to benefit directly from this change.
Government’s Response
An official from the Chinese Ministry of Tourism stated, “Our goal is to make China a convenient and attractive destination for travelers from around the world. With the visa-free travel policy, we expect China’s participation in global tourism to grow even further.”
