America: First suspected human death from bird flu, but no immediate threat

Bird Flu In Washington – The first reported death from a rare strain of bird flu in Washington state has raised concerns among health officials. However, the state health department expressed relief, stating that the virus is not particularly dangerous to the general public.
Death of a person suspected of having bird flu infection
According to the health department, the deceased person was infected with the H5N5 strain of bird flu and was undergoing treatment. However, the death has not yet been declared a bird flu death. In a statement released Friday, health officials said the deceased was an elderly man with underlying health conditions and was being treated for bird flu infection.
First Case of Human Infection with Bird Flu
This incident occurred in Grays Harbor County, Washington state, about 125 kilometers southwest of Seattle. The deceased person had a flock of pet chickens at their home, which came into contact with wild birds. The health department stated that this is the first case of human infection with bird flu.

Officials stated that the H5N5 virus is not considered as dangerous to humans as H5N1. Following this incident, the health department has begun investigating other possible cases of infection. However, the department clarified that no other individuals have been found infected with the virus yet, and the virus is not a major public concern.
Low Risk to People, Officials Caution
Health officials also stated in a statement that the risk to people from this bird flu infection is low, and no other humans have been found infected with avian influenza (bird flu) at this time. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also issued a statement stating that this case does not pose a serious threat to public health.
The Washington Department of Health stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and has initiated measures to ensure that the virus does not affect any other humans.
