Ajmer, Rajasthan. The demolition of the Seven Wonders built at the cost of crores of rupees under the Smart City project in Ajmer continues for the third day today. The demolition of the Taj Mahal has been started. Workers are engaged in demolishing the Taj Mahal since morning.
Replicas of the seven wonders of the world were built in the park, which included the Taj Mahal, Egyptian pyramids, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower, Roman Colosseum, Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer. So far five structures have been completely demolished and efforts are on to remove the rest soon.
On the first day (September 12), the Colosseum of Rome was demolished. On the second day (September 13), action was taken to remove the Egyptian pyramids, Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer. In fact, the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had declared these wonders built in Ana Sagar Wetland illegal.
Therefore, the Ajmer Development Authority (ADA) is taking action to demolish these 7 wonders. They were constructed in the year 2022 at a cost of about Rs 12 crore, and were inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The Supreme Court had reprimanded the officials during the hearing in February 2025 and said, “Your job is to make Ajmer smart, but these constructions are harming the environment.” The court had sought an assurance of complete cleaning by September 17, after which this action was expedited.
