Teenage Sensation Fanny Utugushimanninde Scripts History with Record-Breaking Century on T20I Debut

Fanny Utugushimanninde : Rwanda’s young cricket prodigy Fanny Utugushimanninde has created a remarkable milestone in women’s cricket by becoming the first player to score a century on T20 International debut. The 15-year-old achieved this incredible feat during the Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20 tournament, delivering a stunning unbeaten knock against Ghana.

Facing just 65 balls, Fanny smashed an unbeaten 111 runs, showcasing maturity well beyond her age. With this innings, she not only set the record for a century on debut but also became the youngest player ever to score a hundred in Women’s T20 Internationals. At the time of her century, she was just 15 years and 223 days old.

The previous record belonged to Uganda’s Proscovia Alako, who had scored 116 runs against Mali in 2019 at the age of 16 years and 233 days. Fanny’s achievement has now rewritten the record books in emphatic fashion.

Adding to her list of accomplishments, Fanny also registered the highest score on a women’s T20I debut, surpassing a long-standing record set 19 years ago by Australia’s Karen Rolton, who had made an unbeaten 96 against England back in 2005.

Riding on Fanny’s brilliant century, Rwanda posted a massive total of 210 for 3 in their 20 overs. She received support from Marveille Uwase, who contributed a quick 32 off 19 balls. Ghana’s bowlers struggled with discipline, conceding 28 extras, including 25 wides.

In response, Ghana’s batting lineup failed to cope with Rwanda’s dominance and managed only 88 for 8 in their 20 overs. Rwanda sealed a comprehensive victory by 122 runs, marking a memorable match that will be remembered for Fanny’s historic debut performance.
