Tata Sierra 2025: The Iconic 90s SUV Makes a Stylish Comeback

1 Mins read

Tata Motors is reviving one of its most iconic SUVs — the Tata Sierra for 2025, blending retro charm with modern design and cutting-edge technology. Once a legend of the 90s, the Sierra returns with a fresh rugged look and a cabin full of premium features.

Launch & Price

The new Sierra is expected to launch later this year. Its ex-showroom price is likely to start at around ₹11 lakh and rise up to about ₹20 lakh, depending on the variant.

Exterior Design

The 2025 Sierra keeps its classic boxy shape but updates it with a modern upright design. It sports a gloss-black grille, split LED headlamps, broad LED daylight running lights, and a reinterpretation of the distinctive “Alpine window” as a quarter-glass with a blacked-out roof pillar. At the rear, connected LED tail lamps span the tailgate, and the higher variants ride on dual-tone alloy wheels.

Interior & Features

Inside, the Sierra is loaded with tech: three large 12.3-inch displays (a digital driver cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, and a dedicated screen for the co-passenger). The dashboard boasts soft-touch materials, silver accents and a clean layout. Comfort is emphasised with generous legroom and two-tone beige-white upholstery. Premium features include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, USB-C ports, 360° parking camera, keyless entry, push-button start and automatic wipers and lights.

Safety

The Sierra is expected to come equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, tyre-pressure monitoring, hill-assist and even Level-2 ADAS systems.

Engine Options

One likely powertrain is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing roughly 170 PS and 280 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 1.5-litre diesel option (approximately 118 PS / 260 Nm) is also anticipated. An EV version is under development, though the ICE variants are expected to launch first.

Competitors & Market Position

The new Sierra will be positioned in the midsize-SUV segment, slotting between Tata’s Curvv and Harrier. Its key rivals will include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Honda Elevate.

Final Thoughts

This reboot of the Sierra is a compelling blend of nostalgia and modernity. For those who remember the original Sierra, it offers an emotive return. For new buyers, it presents a tech-rich, stylish and reliable SUV option. Tata Motors appears to have struck a smart balance between legacy appeal and forward-looking innovation.
