Student leader Nirmal Chaudhary was granted bail by the Jaipur court on Sunday after being arrested by Gandhi Nagar Police in a 2022 case. Chaudhary was appearing for his Philosophy 4th semester exam at Rajasthan University when plainclothes officers took him from the exam hall and into custody.
Sangaria MLA Abhimanyu Poonia, who was also appearing for the exam, was briefly detained and later released. Chaudhary was taken to Gandhi Nagar, then Malviya Nagar, and later Sanganer Sadar police stations.
He was presented in court on Sunday afternoon, where both the prosecution and defense presented arguments. The court subsequently approved Chaudhary’s bail plea.
Before being taken to court, Nirmal told the media: “I am being treated like a terrorist for standing up for justice. This is not right in a democracy.“
He thanked Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Party, Varun Chaudhary, and lawyers Vimal Tyagi, Meghraj Meena, Vikas, and Ramkishan for their legal support.
The case dates back to 2022, when Chaudhary was allegedly involved in a scuffle with then CI Nemichand and ACP Mukesh Chaudhary, both of whom sustained injuries. Police proceeded with arrest after charges were found valid in investigation.
