Rajasthan Petrol Pump Raid

Jaipur | May 17, 2026

In a major administrative move to protect consumer rights and curb fuel short-measurement (dispensing less fuel than recorded), the Department of Consumer Affairs in Rajasthan has executed a sweeping enforcement drive. Specialized vigilance squads conducted unannounced, synchronized raids at retail fuel stations across multiple districts on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Following the discovery of systemic measurement discrepancies, authorities clamped down on violators, sealing and suspending operations at 43 individual fuel nozzles across 25 petrol pumps with immediate effect.

The investigative findings revealed a troubling pattern of institutionalized fraud: multiple high-volume fuel stations were consistently under-dispensing between 30 mL and 60 mL of fuel for every 5 liters purchased by retail consumers. Given that these locations handle thousands of liters in daily traffic, these seemingly marginal discrepancies aggregated into millions of rupees in illicit monthly profits at the expense of everyday motorists.

District-by-District Enforcement Data and Economic Impact

According to validated data published by the Department of Consumer Affairs, targeted interventions were executed across seven primary districts, with the localized breakdowns detailed below:

  • Sirohi: Vigilance teams uncovered extensive short-measurement patterns across seven retail stations, leading to the decommissioning of 9 fuel nozzles. Stations caught violating legal metrology standards included Rampir Filling Station, Pawan Filling, Karni Fuel, Devanagari Petroleum Service, Parvati Dariya Filling Station, Surendra Jitendra Traders, and Bhagwati Filling Station. These pumps were under-dispensing 40 mL to 50 mL per 5-liter metric, resulting in a collective monthly shortage of 90 to 360 liters of fuel per station, valued at an estimated loss of ₹1.14 lakh to consumers.
  • Nagaur: This district saw the highest volume of regulatory seizures, with 11 nozzles confiscated across four retail outlets. Inspections at Nandlal Rajesh Kumar Kachwaha Filling Station, Gulabdas Atmaram, Marwar Filling Station, and R L Sihag Petroleum confirmed monthly under-dispensing rates ranging from 54 to 378 liters, totaling an estimated financial fraud of ₹97,000.
  • Alwar: Authorities suspended operations at 5 nozzles split between Singhal Service Station and Choudhary Service Station. Singhal Service Station exhibited a deficit of 30 mL to 60 mL per 5 liters, shortchanging consumers by up to 648 liters of fuel a month and driving a district-wide loss exceeding ₹91,000.
  • Pali: A total of 5 fuel nozzles were locked down across Ma I G Filling, Pooja HP Petroleum, Parshwa Energy, and Kachwa Bus Services, where under-dispensing ranges varied from 45 to 180 liters per month, causing a cumulative consumer loss of over ₹55,000.
  • Bhilwara and Sikar: In Bhilwara, 4 nozzles were sealed across Deepak Petroleum, Shiv Indian Oil, and Shri Shyam Filling Station. Meanwhile, in Sikar, the CSRB Filling Station (Nayara) was caught shortchanging consumers by 216 liters of fuel monthly, resulting in the immediate sealing of 4 of its nozzles.

Departmental analysts estimate that across these identified cases alone, the fraudulent calibration of dispensing units allowed station operators to illicitly extract nearly ₹4 lakh per month directly from consumers’ pockets.

State Directives: Strict Legal Action Against Errant Operators

Reflecting on the outcomes of the surprise enforcement drive, Rajasthan’s Minister for Consumer Affairs, Mr. Sumit Godara, made it clear that the state administration will maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward entities compromising consumer trust.

Official Ministerial Statement: “Our department stands fully vigilant in safeguarding the economic interests and statutory rights of consumers. This proactive enforcement campaign is aimed at restoring absolute marketplace transparency and enforcing strict accountability among fuel retail dealers. Station operators found tampering with dispensing machinery to defraud the public will face stringent legal penalties and regulatory prosecution. These unannounced inspections will continue across the state continuously and without prior notice.”
