Jaipur: The state government has tightened its monitoring regarding the nutrition and transparency of the Mid-Day Meal provided to school children in Rajasthan. During the meeting of the State Level Steering and Monitoring Committee of the ‘PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana’ held at the Secretariat on Monday, June 1, 2026, Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas issued strict instructions to the officials. He stated that instead of just relying on paperwork, officials must step onto the ground and conduct continuous visits to schools to check the quality of the food.

During the meeting, the budget of ₹953.97 crore approved by the Central Government for Rajasthan was also ratified. Emphasizing digital transparency, the Chief Secretary also directed the immediate updating of the ‘RAJSIMS’ portal.

Key Points and Major Decisions of the Meeting

  • Regular Inspections: Officials have been directed to conduct surprise inspections to ensure that children receive a fully balanced and nutritious meal according to the prescribed standards.
  • Positive Impact: With the effective implementation of the scheme, the drop-out rate of children in government schools has decreased, malnutrition levels have declined, and children’s interest in studies has increased.

Two Major Innovations of the State Government: ‘Shri Krishna Bhog’ and ‘Atithi Mata’

Progress reports on two special initiatives launched by the state government, which have also been praised by the Prime Minister himself, were shared in the meeting:

1. Shri Krishna Bhog Yojana This innovation is proving to be immensely helpful in eradicating anemia and malnutrition among children. During the financial year 2025-26, 6,054,768 food plates (thalis) were served to children under this scheme.

2. Atithi Mata Concept Under this unique initiative, mothers and female guardians of school children are invited to the school. They not only inspect the cleanliness and distribution system of the food but also taste the meal themselves and record their written feedback on its taste and quality. Under this campaign, 5,519,810 mothers have visited schools to observe the mid-day meal system so far.

Presence of Senior Officials

This important meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of School Education Shri Rajesh Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary of UDH Shri Alok Gupta, Secretary of Rural Development Shri Krishna Kunal, Secretary of Food and Civil Supplies Shri Ambrish Kumar, along with Joint Secretary Finance Dr. Bharti Dixit, ICDS Director Shri Vasudev Malavat, and Mid-Day Meal Commissioner Shri Vishwa Mohan Sharma, alongside other senior officials of the Education Department.
