DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar arrested : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Harcharan Singh Bhullar, DIG of the Ropar Range of the Punjab Police, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh (approximately $1.5 million). Bhullar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe from a scrap dealer in Mandi Gobindgarh.
According to sources, Bhullar had demanded a bribe of ₹8 lakh (approximately $1.5 million) from the businessman to settle a false case filed against him. The businessman, fed up, filed a complaint with the CBI office in Chandigarh. Following this, the CBI team monitored Bhullar for 10 days and arrested him on Thursday while accepting the first installment of ₹5 lakh (approximately $1.5 million).
Bhullar’s career spans several key positions, including serving as SSP in Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Khanna, Jagraon, Gurdaspur, and SAS Nagar. He was appointed DIG of the Ropar Range in 2013. Additionally, he led the police action in the incident in which AAP workers stopped the BBMB chairman during the Punjab-Haryana water dispute.
Bhullar’s name was also linked to the drug trafficking case against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia. However, he was later removed from the SIT.
