Press Conference Held in Karauli Ahead of Mass Panchayat Against Displacement Due to Dungri Dam

A press conference was organized on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Circuit House, Karauli, by the Dungri Dam Virodh Sangharsh Samiti to announce the upcoming district-level Mass Panchayat to be held on Sunday, July 13, at Kushal Singh Baba’s site in Sapotara.

This Mahapanchayat is being organized in protest against the displacement of 76 villages affected during the first phase of Dungri Dam construction. It is expected that people from around 300 villages across Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Dholpur districts will participate in the gathering.

Members of the Sangharsh Samiti including Shailendra Singh Rajput, JP from Bhooripahadi, Hansraj from Saingarpura, Amresh from Salempur, Premraj from Ekat, Ramprakash from Gordhanpura, Chetaram from Gaonda, Rajesh from Nimoda, Badal from Jeerota, and Ashok from Ekat, along with several village heads and youth leaders, were present at the press briefing.

It is noteworthy that similar Mahapanchayats were previously held in Dungri village on July 6 and Bhooripahadi village on June 22, both witnessing public participation of nearly 15,000 people. The Samiti stated that no displacement will be accepted without proper rehabilitation and resettlement plans. They demanded that the government address the concerns of the affected communities and ensure justice before proceeding with dam-related work.

The press conference concluded with a united appeal to local media, citizens, and public representatives to raise their voices and stand with the displaced communities in their fight for rightful rehabilitation.
