57 NCC Cadets Trained as ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ for Disaster Management in Rajasthan

Jaipur, June 18: In a significant step toward strengthening the state’s disaster management framework, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration, and police will now be assisted by the youth of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Under the ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ (Youth Disaster Volunteer) scheme initiated by the Rajasthan Police, NCC cadets are being specifically trained to act as ‘first responders’ to save lives during natural or man-made emergencies.
A comprehensive seven-day training camp was organized at the NCC complex on JLN Marg from June 12 to June 18. During this intensive program, a total of 57 cadets were taught the critical nuances of relief and rescue operations by seasoned SDRF experts.
Following the successful completion of the training, a grand closing ceremony was held on Thursday at the Rajasthan Police Headquarters, under the directives of Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Shri Rajeev Kumar Sharma. The newly trained cadets were honored with certificates of appreciation to boost their morale and recognize their commitment.
Empowering Disaster Management Through Public Participation
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the ceremony, DGP (Law and Order) Shri Sanjay Agarwal congratulated the cadets on their achievement. He emphasized that the ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ initiative is a vital step toward integrating public participation into crisis management. These trained youths will now be able to coordinate seamlessly with the SDRF and other rescue teams, making emergency responses much more effective. Shri Agarwal also advised the youth to create a clear roadmap for their life goals and commended the SDRF for their dedication in high-risk environments.
Training Initiatives to Expand Across the State
Outlining the broader vision of the scheme, Additional Director General of Police (Armed Battalion & SDRF) Shri Rupinder Singh stated that the youth are being trained in disaster management in a phased manner. He confirmed that similar training camps will be organized at various other locations across the state. The inclusion of trained youth power is expected to provide substantial on-ground support to the police and administration during crises.
The event was also graced by notable officials including Col. Raghuvendra Kumar, Sena Medal awardee Col. Vinod Kumar, Lt. Col. Parminder Kaur, and SDRF Commandant Shri Rajendra Singh Sisodia, who all encouraged the young volunteers. At the conclusion of the program, the cadets shared their week-long experiences and reiterated their pledge to serve society.
What Did the Cadets Learn in the 7-Day Camp?
Over the course of the week, the cadets were equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to handle various disaster scenarios:
- Relief and Rescue: Safe evacuation methods for people trapped during earthquakes, floods, fires, heavy storms, and building collapses.
- First Aid: Administering immediate medical assistance for injuries, severe bleeding, burns, and fractures. They were also trained in life-saving techniques like CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for cases of cardiac arrest or unconsciousness.
- Technical Drills: Mastering rope-based rescue operations for high altitudes and inaccessible terrains, water rescue techniques, and the correct operation of fire extinguishers.
- Crisis Management: Learning crowd control, establishing communication during emergencies, and practicing rapid response through simulated mock drills.
Conclusion
The ‘Yuva Aapda Mitra’ scheme is a highly proactive effort to fortify Rajasthan’s disaster management system at the grassroots level. This first batch of 57 NCC cadets is now not only equipped to protect themselves but is fully prepared to serve as a crucial lifeline for society when disaster strikes.
