A shocking incident occurred in Jaipur’s Sadar Police Station where 28-year-old Manish Pandey, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide inside police custody on Saturday. Following public outrage, Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph has suspended 6 officers, including the Station House Officer (SHO).

Manish, accused of bike theft, was reportedly intoxicated and detained by locals before being handed over to the police. He was placed near the HM room, where he used a piece of cloth to hang himself. Police found him dead shortly after.

The incident led to protests outside SMS Hospital mortuary by Manishโ€™s family. Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas visited the site, spoke with the family, and criticized the governmentโ€™s silence.

Anil Chaturvedi, President of Parshuram Sena, confirmed the settlement:

  • โ‚น10 lakh financial aid via social organizations
  • Assurance of government assistance
  • Suspension of responsible officer
  • Job on contract for Manish’s widow

A judicial magistrate will now conduct an inquiry into this custodial death.
