
New Delhi: In a significant move, the Indian Army has promoted Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). This promotion follows the success of Operation Sindoor, which was launched in retaliation to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.
What Was Operation Sindoor?
After the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Army destroyed terrorist launchpads across the border. Lt Gen Ghai played a central role in strategizing and executing the response, showcasing leadership under pressure.
What Is the Role of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy)?
- Second in command after the Chief of Army Staff.
- Oversees military strategy, operations, and coordination with the Ministry of Defence.
- All operational wings of the army report to this position.
- Despite the promotion, Lt Gen Ghai will continue as DGMO.
