Karauli, Rajasthan – The city of Karauli reeled under a severe heatwave on Tuesday as the mercury climbed to a scorching 45 degrees Celsius. The intense sunlight and hot winds forced people indoors during the peak afternoon hours.
Streets and markets wore a deserted look post-noon. To beat the heat, people turned to refreshing drinks like lemonade, sugarcane juice, and lassi. Long queues were seen at roadside stalls selling cold beverages.
Dr. Ramkesh Meena from the health department warned that the period between 12 PM and 3:30 PM is the most dangerous due to extreme heat. He advised the elderly, children, and vulnerable individuals to stay indoors and drink plenty of water. Light meals are also recommended during such conditions.
The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for the next two days across Karauli and adjoining regions, cautioning residents to take safety measures against the ongoing heatwave.
In a bid to provide relief, the Karauli Municipal Council has begun sprinkling water at major intersections and public areas using water tankers. Authorities have also appealed to villagers to ensure water availability for animals and birds.
Women and students are seen covering themselves with scarves or using umbrellas to protect from the scorching sun. There is no immediate forecast for relief, and the rising temperatures are expected to persist.
