The Lok Sabha witnessed uproar on Monday, as has happened several times before. Opposition MPs approached the Speaker’s chair and threw papers, leading to repeated disruptions of the House proceedings. No business could be conducted amidst the commotion.

Om Birla’s strict stance:

Given the opposition’s behavior in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla suspended eight opposition MPs for the entire session for throwing papers and approaching the Speaker’s chair. The Speaker emphasized the need for discipline, stating that the dignity of the House must be maintained.

Controversy begins with Rahul Gandhi’s speech:

The uproar began when Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, during his address in the Lok Sabha, once again raised issues related to China. As he continued speaking, the noise between the ruling party and the opposition intensified. Rahul Gandhi insisted on making his point, but his speech could not be completed due to continuous interruptions.

Proceedings halted several times:

Due to the commotion, the Lok Sabha proceedings had to be adjourned several times during the day. When the House reconvened for the fourth time at 3 PM, the situation deteriorated again, and MPs threw papers towards the Speaker’s chair. The MPs who threw the papers were subsequently suspended.

Suspension motion passed:

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moved a motion to suspend the MPs who threw papers for the remainder of the session. The motion was passed by voice vote, and the suspension came into effect immediately.

Congress’s strong reaction:

Following the incident, Congress MP KC Venugopal criticized the government. He said that Rahul Gandhi was fulfilling his responsibilities, but the government was suppressing his voice. Venugopal challenged the government, saying that if they had the courage, they should suspend not only Congress MPs but all opposition MPs.
