Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh) – A major case of cattle smuggling has come to light in the Dodhat police station area of the district. The local police intercepted a canter vehicle late Monday night and recovered 28 animals, of which 21 had already died, and only 7 animals were found alive. The police arrested two smugglers on the spot, identified as Adil and Shan from Hapur.

Smuggling Consignment Coming from Haryana

According to the information, the smugglers were transporting the animals from Haryana and were on their way to other districts via Baghpat. When the Dodhat police stopped the vehicle on suspicion, they were shocked to find the inhumanely packed livestock. The vehicle lacked proper ventilation for the animals, and there was no provision for food or water. As a result, 21 animals had died on the spot.

Hindu Jagran Manch Activists Protest

Upon receiving the news, activists from the Hindu Jagran Manch arrived at the scene and staged a protest at the police station. The activists alleged that cattle smuggling from Haryana to Baghpat district was ongoing, and the administration was not taking any concrete action against it.

Police Action Ongoing

Under the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, a case has been registered against the smugglers under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other relevant sections. The police are also trying to determine who else may be involved in this smuggling racket. The seized canter has been parked at the police station, and the surviving animals have been sent to a local cow shelter.
