Child Marriage Prevention

Masalpur (Karauli) | May 12, 2026

In a significant step toward eliminating the social evil of child marriage and ensuring the protection of children’s rights, ActionAid Association organized a community-based ‘Sensitivity Mapping’ (Vulnerability Mapping) session at the Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra in Bhavali. The program saw active participation from local volunteers, social workers, and community representatives.

What is Sensitivity Mapping (Vulnerability Mapping)?

District Coordinator Dinesh Kumar Bairwa explained that child marriage is not just a legal violation but a grave issue linked to social, economic, and gender inequalities. It severely impacts the education, health, and safety of children, particularly girls. The mapping process is designed to:

  • Identify High-Risk Families: Pinpoint households and areas where the probability of child marriage is high.
  • Target Vulnerable Groups: Focus on dropout girls, extremely poor or migrant families, and adolescent girls of marriageable age.
  • Enable Timely Intervention: Provide necessary support and administrative help before a marriage can take place.

Community Participation and Strategic Planning

The meeting emphasized that government efforts alone are not enough; collective participation from parents, volunteers, and various departments is essential. Volunteers were trained on how to:

  1. Conduct Awareness Campaigns: Educate the community on the legal and physical consequences of early marriage.
  2. Identify At-Risk Children: Focus on bringing school dropouts back into the educational mainstream.
  3. Coordinate with Authorities: Work closely with the Police, Women and Child Development Department, and local administration to form a ground-level response team.

Expert Analysis: Data-Driven Solutions

Social experts believe that ‘Mapping’ is an effective tool because it provides reliable ground-level data. By creating a strategic action plan based on these statistics, the community can move from reactive measures to proactive prevention, ensuring a safer future for children in the Karauli district.
