
Mirzapur, UP: In a shocking incident from Chakkodar village under the Haliya police station limits of Mirzapur district, unidentified miscreants vandalized the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on Monday night. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when villagers discovered the damage and alerted the police.
Police officials, along with Circle Officer Ashok Kumar, rushed to the spot to assess the situation. The statue’s head was found separated from the torso, allegedly hit with a heavy object. The incident has sparked widespread anger among the local residents, who demanded immediate action and restoration.
Case Filed, New Statue Installation Begins
The Haliya police station has registered a case under relevant sections against unknown persons. Three police stations – Lalganj, Haliya, and Drummondganj – have deployed additional personnel to maintain peace. According to CO Ashok Kumar, a new statue is already being installed, and law and order remains under control.
Statue Was Unveiled by Union Minister
The statue had been inaugurated on 6th November 2024 by Union Minister Anupriya Patel, making it a symbolic and politically sensitive site for the Dalit community in the region. Locals have demanded that the new statue be installed within 24 hours to avoid escalation of tension.
