Ambedkar Statue Vandalised in Gorakhpur, Two Arrested; Tension in Area

Gorakhpur: A case of vandalism involving the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar has come to light from Bhaisahi Khurd village under Bansgaon police station limits in Gorakhpur district. The incident has triggered tension in the area and drawn strong reactions from local residents and political leaders.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the morning of April 16, when police received information around 8 AM about the damaged statue. Acting swiftly, police officials reached the spot, assessed the situation, and ensured that law and order was maintained.
Authorities took immediate steps to reinstall the statue at the site, while the damaged structure was respectfully removed. Based on a formal complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections and arrested two accused individuals. Further investigation is currently underway.
The incident has also sparked political reactions. District President of the Samajwadi Party, Brijesh Kumar Gautam, strongly condemned the act, stating that it is not merely an attack on a statue but an insult to the dignity of the Dalit community and the values of the Constitution. He demanded a fair investigation and strict punishment for those responsible.
Police officials have stated that the situation is under control and additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further disturbances.
