Ahmedabad Dreamliner Crash—Rescuers Hunt Debris & Possible Engine Failure

Rescue teams in Ahmedabad are combing wreckage and surrounding hostel buildings following the Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner (Flight AI‑171) crash bound for London Gatwick. The aircraft, carrying 242 people, crashed short after takeoff, killing 241 people—**217 aboard and about 24 on the ground—with one British survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, seated in row 11A.

🔍 Ongoing Rescue & Investigation:

  • Teams are searching for missing individuals and debris, including aircraft parts. One black box has been recovered, aiding the investigation.
  • Preliminary analysis points to a possible engine thrust loss leading to the crash. Authorities are conducting in-depth technical checks.

🏨 Crash Site & Casualties:

  • The aircraft collided with the BJ Medical College doctors’ hostel near Ahmedabad Civil Hospital at around 1:40 PM, embedding its tail into the building. Several resident doctors were injured.

🚨 Official Response:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site, reviewed rescue efforts, and met the injured.
  • Investigations are being assisted by Boeing, GE Aerospace, UK’s AAIB, US NTSB/FAA, and India’s AAIB, with technical support promised.
