Venezuela vs America – President Donald Trump said Saturday that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been “captured” and “taken out of the country,” confirming that the United States had “successfully launched a large-scale strike” against the country.
US Senator Mike Lee (@BasedMikeLee) wrote, “Just spoke with @SecRubio on the phone. He informed me that Nicolas Maduro has been arrested by US personnel pending trial on criminal charges in the US, and the military action we witnessed tonight was taken to protect and defend those enforcing the arrest warrant. This action likely falls within the President’s inherent authority under Article II of the Constitution to protect US personnel from actual or imminent attack. Thank you.”
The White House did not immediately respond to questions about where Maduro and his wife were being taken. Maduro was tried in March 2020 in the Southern District of New York on charges of conspiracy to commit “narco-terrorism.” US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said the military action and Maduro’s arrest marked “the beginning of a new era” for Venezuela, adding that “the dictator is over.”
He posted this a few hours after the attack. His senior Foreign Minister, Marco Rubio reshared a post he made in July that said Maduro “is not the president of Venezuela and his regime is not a legitimate government.”
