Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, visited the historic ‘Sanchu Post’ located on the international border in Bikaner. Accompanied by Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, the Home Minister interacted with border guards and emphasized new strategies to further strengthen the border security framework.
Key Announcements and Security Strategy
The Home Minister highlighted the paradigm shifts in border management and outlined future strategic initiatives:
- Quadrilateral Security Grid: He called for the creation of a robust security grid involving the BSF, the Indian Army, vigilant citizens, and the local administration to ensure impregnable borders.
- Advanced Technology: The process of installing ‘Anti-drone systems’ in border areas will commence within the next six months.
- Enhanced Connectivity: A 1,096 km-long ‘lateral road’ and a 520 km-long ‘XCL road’ are under construction along the international border to facilitate the smooth movement of security forces.
- Development of Border Villages: He emphasized the ‘Vibrant Village’ program, focusing on the holistic development of border areas and continuous dialogue with the local populace.
Empowering Women in Border Guarding
Taking a significant step toward women’s empowerment, the Home Minister virtually inaugurated 14 newly constructed women’s barracks at border outposts. He stated that daughters are currently two steps ahead of sons in protecting the nation’s borders. He noted that out of 79 barracks sanctioned at a cost of ₹40 crore for female personnel in Rajasthan, 67 have already been completed.
Environmental Commitment and Respect for Valor
Underlining the historical significance of the Sanchu Post, he paid tribute to the bravery of Indian soldiers during the 1965 war. Demonstrating his commitment to environmental conservation, the Home Minister and the Chief Minister planted ‘Khejri’ saplings. He highlighted that since 2019, BSF personnel have made a major contribution to combating climate change by planting 7.35 crore saplings along the borders.
Security Challenges and Vigilance
Shri Amit Shah issued clear directives that the BSF must look beyond traditional duties and focus on new dimensions of security:
- Infiltration and Smuggling: He directed officials to maintain a sharp vigil against cross-border infiltration and smuggling.
- Demographic Shifts: If any artificial changes in the demographics of border areas are detected, the BSF must immediately alert the state government.
- Drone Surveillance: Civil and police administrations have been instructed to remain highly vigilant against those utilizing drones for nefarious activities.
