Sriganganagar, Rajasthan: Tensions have escalated in Sriganganagar following allegations of a brutal physical assault on a government official and private representatives by local MLA Jaydeep Bihani. Social organizations and the Dalit community have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the state government, demanding an immediate FIR and high-level investigation.

The Incident: Assault During a Meeting

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on April 30, 2026, at the MLA Service Center located within S.D. Bihani College. Assistant Engineer (AEN) Jagan Lal Bairwa (RUIDP), along with L&T representatives Shahnawaz Hasan and Soham Parmar, were reportedly summoned for a meeting.

The complaint alleges that during this meeting, the MLA and his supporters launched a violent attack on the officials. The details are harrowing:

  • Severe Injuries: AEN Jagan Lal Bairwa reportedly suffered a serious eye injury leading to loss of vision, a fractured toe, and multiple internal injuries.
  • Abuse and Intimidation: It is alleged that the victims were subjected to caste-based slurs, beaten with pipes, and had their mobile phones snatched to destroy evidence.
  • Attempted Cover-up: The complaint further states that the victims were forced to change their torn clothes to hide the assault.

Controversy Over Police Action

Serious questions have been raised regarding the conduct of the Jawahar Nagar police. Instead of acting on the victims’ grievances, the police reportedly detained the officials and charged them with “breach of peace.” It was only after being released on bail on May 1st that the victims were able to submit a formal complaint to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police. However, an FIR has yet to be registered.

Key Demands of the Community

In a press statement issued by Rinku Kumar Jatav, former State Secretary of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram), several demands have been placed before the administration:

  1. Immediate FIR: Registration of a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
  2. Special Oversight: A CID-CB investigation supervised by an officer of ADG rank.
  3. Preservation of Evidence: Immediate seizure of CCTV footage from the MLA Service Center.
  4. Administrative Accountability: An inquiry into the role of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jawahar Nagar police station.

Warning of Statewide Unrest

The Dalit community has expressed deep resentment over the recurrence of such incidents involving public representatives. Organizers have warned that if an impartial FIR is not filed within 48 hours, a massive statewide protest will be launched across Rajasthan.
