Solar Rooftop Subsidy

Jaipur | May 14, 2026

Rajasthan achieved a historic milestone in the renewable energy sector this Thursday. Under the Central Governmentโ€™s ambitious ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’, the number of rooftop solar power plant installations in the state has officially crossed the 2 lakh (200,000) mark. Launched approximately 26 months ago, this scheme has sparked a significant shift toward solar energy among domestic consumers.

Tara Sharma Becomes the 2 Lakhth Beneficiary

Tara Sharma, a resident of Natraj Nagar (Imli Wala Phatak), Jaipur, became the landmark consumer whose home hosted the 200,000th rooftop solar plant in the state. To celebrate this achievement, Jaipur Discom’s Superintending Engineer (PM Surya Ghar), Ms. Mahima Sarabhai, and Superintending Engineer (Jaipur City Circle – South), Mr. Anil Todwal, visited her residence to congratulate her and presented her with a solar cooktop as a token of appreciation.

Double Subsidy Benefit: Savings Up to โ‚น95,000

The rapid pace of rooftop solar installations in Rajasthan is primarily driven by the substantial financial incentives provided by both the Central and State Governments:

  • Central Government Subsidy: The Government of India provides a subsidy of โ‚น78,000 for installing the solar plant.
  • State Government Top-up: For consumers registered under the Mukhyamantri Nishulk Bijli Yojana, the Rajasthan Government provides an additional subsidy of โ‚น17,000.
  • Total Benefit: Consumers can avail a total subsidy of up to โ‚น95,000, making solar energy an incredibly affordable transition.

Rajasthanโ€™s Progress in Numbers

Key statistics reflecting the massive public participation and successful implementation of the scheme:

  • Total Capacity: To date, plants with a combined capacity of 771 MW have been installed across the state.
  • Current Installations: As of Thursday, the total number of installations reached 2,00,416.
  • Subsidy Disbursement: The Government of India has already transferred more than โ‚น1,354 crore directly to consumers’ accounts.
  • Record-Breaking April: In April 2026 alone, the state saw a record 22,822 new installations, the highest ever recorded in a single month.

District Performance and National Ranking

Jaipur district leads the state with 41,296 installations, followed by Sri Ganganagar, Sikar, Hanumangarh, and Jhunjhunu. On the national leaderboard, Rajasthan currently holds the 5th position, trailing only Gujarat (6.61 lakh), Maharashtra (5.69 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (5.25 lakh), and Kerala (2.39 lakh).
