– Enhancing employment opportunities for youth and accelerating DPNG connections for Kota residents
In a major push to expand the natural gas (CNG/DPNG) network and empower local youth, Rajasthan State Gas Limited (RSGL)—a joint venture of the State Government—has launched a specialized practical training program. The workshop is currently being attended by 45 students from the Plumber and Fitter trades at the Government ITI College, Kota.
Beyond Standard Plumbing: The ‘Gas Tech’ Edge
Mr. Vinay Patni, Managing Director of RSGL, highlighted that installing piped natural gas (PNG) connections requires a specialized skill set that differs significantly from traditional plumbing.
- Specialized Techniques: Training covers GI (Galvanized Iron) installation and specific fitting tools.
- Critical Safety: The workshop emphasizes the high safety standards and precision required for gas infrastructure.
- Real-World Application: Moving beyond textbooks, students are being trained to solve real-time technical challenges encountered at project sites.
Targeting an ‘LPG-Free’ Kota
With both Central and State governments prioritizing the transition from LPG to DPNG (Domestic Piped Natural Gas) to create “LPG-Free Zones,” this initiative addresses the growing demand for a skilled workforce.
- Direct Employment: Students trained in this five-day workshop (running from May 11 to May 15) will have the opportunity to work directly with RSGL’s project contractors.
- Faster Rollouts: Increasing the pool of trained manpower will significantly speed up the process of issuing new DPNG connections to households across Kota.
Workshop Highlights
- Inauguration: The session was inaugurated by Mr. Ramniwas Mangal, Mining Engineer and Member Secretary (DMFT).
- Curriculum: Covers modern GI installation techniques, safety protocols, opportunities in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) industry, and troubleshooting.
- Coordination: The program is being spearheaded by RSGL Deputy General Manager Mr. C.P. Chaudhary, alongside Mr. Vivek Srivastava, Mr. Avinash Singh, and ITI faculty members.
Expert Analysis: Bridging the Skill Gap
This initiative is a prime example of an “Industry-Academia” partnership. By aligning vocational training with current market demands, RSGL is ensuring that Kota’s youth are competitive in the modern job market. For a growing city like Kota, where clean energy adoption is rising, such localized training programs are essential for sustainable urban development.
Professional Note: Trained plumbers interested in collaborating with RSGL contractors are encouraged to contact the RSGL Office in Kota for further opportunities.
