Jaipur, Rajasthan:

In Rajasthan, the ‘Nari Niketan’ (State Women’s Homes), operated by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, have evolved beyond mere shelters. They have become vital hubs for the empowerment and rehabilitation of destitute and vulnerable women. Under the sensitive leadership and visionary approach of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, these institutions are now serving as transformative spaces where women can rebuild their lives with dignity.

Comprehensive Care and Modern Facilities

The state operates specialized women’s homes at every divisional headquarters to provide a secure and respectful environment for women in need.

  • Capacity: A 150-bed Women’s Home is operational in Jaipur, while all other divisional headquarters host Nari Niketans with a capacity of 50 beds each.
  • Essential Services: Residents are provided with free housing, nutritious meals, clothing, and medical care in a safe environment.
  • Skill Development: To promote self-reliance, residents receive modern vocational training, including advanced tailoring, embroidery, and beautician courses.

A New Milestone in Rehabilitation: 1400+ Marriage Proposals for 11 Residents

The success of the state government’s efforts was recently highlighted at the State Women’s Home in Jaipur. When a public notification was issued for the marriage of 11 eligible women residing at the facility, it sparked an overwhelming and positive response from society.

  • Community Response: More than 1,400 highly educated and suitable young men from across the state applied to marry these women.
  • Rigorous Standards: The department ensures a safe future for these women by conducting thorough background checks, including police verification and family history assessments, before selecting suitable matches.
  • Ceremonial Support: These weddings are celebrated with the grandeur of a prestigious family event, often attended by the Chief Minister and senior administrative officials, who participate in the Kanyadaan and offer their blessings to the couples.

Financial Commitment and Achievements

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Avinash Gehlot, emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of women:

  • Investment: Over the past two and a half years, the state government has spent ₹1613.35 lakh on the welfare and rehabilitation of the 1,006 women residing in these institutions.
  • Impact: More than 30 women have been successfully rehabilitated through marriage, and 218 women have received certified skill development training.

The work being done at Rajasthan’s Nari Niketans serves as a model for society. It demonstrates that with the right protection, security, and opportunities, even the most marginalized women can live with dignity and confidence. These homes have truly become a “permanent address for empowerment.”
