India Weather Update June 24, 2026: Monsoon Gains Momentum; Heavy Rain Alert for Mumbai & South India, Humid Heat Persists in Delhi-NCR

The Southwest Monsoon is advancing rapidly across various regions of India. According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has successfully covered parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai), Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar as of June 23. While several parts of the country are bracing for heavy downpours and thunderstorms today, parts of Northwest India will continue to battle intense heat and high humidity.
Here is the detailed regional weather forecast for June 24, 2026:
North India: Persistent Heat and Humidity
Residents in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh should prepare for a hot and highly humid day. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 38°C and 42°C. While isolated dust storms or light scattered drizzles might bring brief evening relief, overall rainfall in these areas is likely to remain below normal. Meanwhile, parts of Rajasthan may experience heatwave-like conditions, though a weak Western Disturbance could trigger isolated light showers.
East and Northeast India: Heavy Showers Expected
Monsoon activity is strengthening across the eastern belt. Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha are on alert for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. In West Bengal, Kolkata and its neighboring districts will experience a typically humid and rainy monsoon day, with temperatures staying comfortable between 32°C and 35°C. Downpour alerts remain active for Northeastern states, including Assam and Meghalaya, where heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
Western Coast & Central India: Torrential Rain in Mumbai
With the monsoon firmly established over Mumbai and the Konkan region, heavy to very heavy rainfall, coupled with gusty winds and thunderstorms, is predicted for June 24. Widespread rain will also lash Coastal Karnataka and Goa. As the monsoon advances further into Central India, parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are expected to receive scattered to moderate showers, bringing a welcome drop in temperatures.
South India: The Active Monsoon Zone
The Southern Peninsula remains the most active zone for this monsoon season. The IMD has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Kerala, interior Karnataka, and coastal areas. Meanwhile, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu will see moderate rainfall with frequent thunderstorms. While temperatures will remain relatively pleasant (ranging between 28°C and 34°C), high humidity levels will persist throughout the day.
Himalayan Region: Pleasant with Evening Showers
The remnants of a Western Disturbance will bring light to moderate rainfall across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with chances of light snowfall in the higher altitudes. The lower plains of these hill states will experience a warm day, followed by refreshing evening showers.
IMD Advisory: The IMD warns that continuous heavy rainfall this week across the Western Coast, Northeast India, and South India could lead to localized waterlogging in low-lying areas and potential traffic disruptions. Farmers are advised to ensure proper drainage in their fields and schedule agricultural activities in alignment with local weather alerts.
