Bardiya, Nepal – 8 September 2025

A serious incident occurred at the residence of a family with a long-standing political background in Chainpur, Rajapur-2, Bardiya, on 8 September 2025, when a petrol bomb was reportedly thrown at the family home, causing a major fire.

According to the family, Jhupa Chand Thakuri and his wife were present at the residence when the incident occurred. The fire caused extensive damage to the house and surrounding property.

Thakuri’s wife also suffered a minor burn injury during the incident and received medical attention.

Jhupa Chand Thakuri has been associated with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) since approximately January 2002 and has served as a Ward Member, according to his family. He has also been involved in political and social activities in his local community.

His son, Surendra Kumar Chand, said that the family had faced pressure and threats connected to his father’s political background.

The family says that police reports, medical documents, photographs, videos and news materials relating to the incident are available.

The family considers the incident a serious security concern and says it occurred in the broader context of political unrest and tensions in Nepal.
