The arrested duo — Chanchal Sharma and Rakesh Saini — were produced in court on Saturday and sent to judicial custody.

According to SHO Kavita Sharma of Kalwar Police Station, Prakash Sharma, a resident of Vaishno Devi Colony, Hathoj, took his life on August 13, 2024, by consuming poison. A case was later filed by his mother Lalita Devi on January 3, 2025, accusing Chanchal and her lover of torture and abetment.

Salary Was Transferred to Lover’s Account

Investigations revealed that Prakash had married Chanchal Sharma in 2017. The couple started living near Vaidyaji Ka Chauraha, where Chanchal developed a relationship with neighbor Rakesh Saini. He frequently visited the house in Prakash’s absence and even took Chanchal out.

When Prakash objected, he was physically assaulted by Chanchal and Rakesh. The wife even diverted Prakash’s salary to Rakesh’s bank account regularly.

Forced to Transfer Money, Husband Poisoned Himself

On August 13, Chanchal transferred ₹36,000 from Prakash’s bank account to Rakesh and started pressuring him to send another ₹3 lakh. Unable to bear the mental and physical torture, Prakash consumed poison.

He was rushed to Chirayu Hospital and later referred to Manipal Hospital, where he was declared dead. The post-mortem was conducted at Kanwatia Hospital.

Digital Evidence Confirms Crime

Police investigations uncovered conflicting statements and digital proof of monetary transfers to Rakesh’s account. On June 6, both accused were arrested and sent to judicial custody. The case has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious concerns about domestic abuse.
