Gandhinagar. Tensions have flared in Gujarat’s political landscape after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava was taken into police custody. Since the detention, party workers and leaders have called the move a “political conspiracy.” AAP has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of targeting its leaders and MLAs following its defeat in the Visavadar by-election, claiming the BJP is rattled and retaliating.
Reward for Raising Corruption Issues: AAP
Reacting strongly, the Gujarat state president of AAP said:
“Ever since the BJP faced defeat in the Visavadar by-election, their desperation has been evident. When our MLA Chaitar Vasava raised corruption issues in the Taluka Coordination Meeting, BJP leaders orchestrated an attack on him. This wasn’t just an attack on Vasava—it was an attack on democracy.”
He alleged that when Vasava went to file a complaint about the attack at the police station, the police instead detained him. AAP leaders claim this action is entirely politically motivated.
Kejriwal’s Direct Attack on BJP
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal also issued a strong statement on the matter. He said:
“If the BJP thinks it can suppress the Aam Aadmi Party by arresting or intimidating our MLAs, then it is making a huge mistake. We will continue to raise our voices against corruption.”
Demand for MLA’s Release
AAP has demanded the immediate release of MLA Chaitar Vasava. The party also announced that if the crackdown continues, statewide protests will be launched to register democratic opposition.
Police Action Under Scrutiny
The party further stated that if a public representative can be treated this way by the police, then it’s not hard to imagine the plight of the common citizen. AAP has warned that it will raise the issue in the upcoming legislative session.
