Hindaun City (Rajasthan), July 6, 2025
A 22-year-old man from Jatav Basti, located on Khareta Road in Hindaun City, allegedly died by suicide early Sunday morning. According to the family, the youth was under severe mental stress after a dowry case was filed against him by his in-laws.
Marriage in 2019, Wife Never Returned After Wedding
Sub-Inspector Heera Lal of Kotwali Police Station informed that the deceased, Mohar Singh (22), was married in 2019 to Payal, a resident of Somli village. However, the traditional “gauna” ceremony (post-marriage ritual when the bride moves in with the groom) never took place, and the wife continued to stay with her parents.
Years passed without the couple living together, and eventually, Mohar Singh’s in-laws filed a dowry harassment case against him. The family claims that this legal and social pressure pushed him into deep depression.
Incident Occurred Around 3 AM
The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on Sunday. Mohar Singh’s mother, upon going to his room, found the door locked from inside. When there was no response to her calls, she looked through the window and saw her son hanging from the ceiling fan.
Alarmed by her screams, other family members rushed in and broke down the door to bring Mohar Singh down. He was taken to the district hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police Investigation Underway
Sub-Inspector Heera Lal and his team arrived at the hospital and took necessary action. The body was sent for post-mortem examination by the medical jurist and later handed over to the family. Police stated that a detailed investigation will be initiated once the medical report is received.
According to the family, Mohar Singh was a daily wage laborer and was the sole breadwinner of the household.
A Social Concern
This tragic incident has once again raised concerns over misuse and delays in legal procedures related to dowry cases. In situations where married couples have never cohabitated, emotional distress and social pressure can lead to devastating outcomes if not addressed with empathy and urgency.
